East by West can carry groups of most sizes throughout the year, see the options below.
Under the current Public Transport fares model, the following fares apply:
Primary School groups travel free (including adults) on all trips
Secondary School groups: $7.50pp return to Mātiu/Somes Island or $7pp return to Days Bay (including adults)
Tertiary groups: $15pp return to Mātiu/Somes Island or $14pp return to Days Bay (including staff)

The Mātiu/Somes Island Excursion
Explore this fascinating island steeped in local history from early Māori settlement to its more recent status as a DOC reserve. The views from all over the easy walking tracks are unsurpassed. Native bird life abounds and you may even see a residential Tuatara!
Groups of less than 40 people:
Groups can Queens Wharf at 10am or 12pm and return back to Queens Wharf at 1:35pm or 3:50pm. Please contact us here to book this option.
Groups can depart Days Bay at 11:10am or 12:35pm and return back to Days Bay at 1:05pm or 3:10pm. Please contact us here to book this option.

Queens Wharf - Days Bay trips
Queens Wharf is a vibrant area full of interesting things to do and see, including waterfront cafes and restaurants, the Museum of Wellington, Fergs Rock and Kayak and much more! Also Te Papa, the Museum of New Zealand, the most vibrant and interesting museum in the Southern Hemisphere, is just a stroll away around the waterfront past Frank Kitts park.
Days Bay and Eastbourne Village are attractive seaside townships served by restaurants, shops and art galleries. Known as “Wellingtons Playground by the sea” for their bush walks, stunning beaches, kayak and bike hire, spend the day exploring the area.

Treasure Island trips
Students get up close to the capital’s maritime history in Wellington Museum’s Treasure Island school programme. The adventure begins with a museum tour before setting sail to Mātiu/Somes Island by ferry where they can discover the diverse roles of our harbour in the past and present. Learn more here.
