Days Bay

One of Wellington’s best swimming beaches set against a backdrop of beautiful native forest. Attractions include great waterfront cafes, restaurants and an arts and craft shop. Also the Pavilion in Williams Park, opposite the wharf, is renowned for its icecreams, a duck pond and easy, short bush walks.
Eastbourne village is just a 10-minute stroll around the foreshore with more shops and restaurants on offer.
So head over for an icecream in the park or lunch or dinner on the waters edge at one of the superb cafe all within 2 mins from Days Bay wharf.

The Katherine Mansfield Connection

Katherine Mansfield’s family, the Beauchamps, took a summerhouse at Days Bay for several years. One of these houses is 3 Marine Drive, and the other can be seen from Puriri Street, looking towards 283 Muritai Road. It is a white wooden house with a green roof, and white brick chimney.
One of Mansfield’s best-known stories, ‘At the Bay’, describes Days Bay and draws upon her memories of summer holidays there.

Williams Park

Williams Park is situated in the middle of Days Bay, opposite the wharf. It has a pond with ducks and swans, the Pavillion Cafe with an icecream shop, public amenities, a tearoom, grass tennis courts, asphalt tennis courts and park-like surrounds

Going Bush

There are short to medium bushwalks in the foothills of the Orongorongo Range, which are accessible from Days Bay. These walks are through native bush and offer the opportunity to see a variety of birdlife.

Days Bay Beach

The Days Bay beach is sheltered with light sand and safe swimming.
There are boats, bikes and kayaks all for hire at the friendly Boatshed and there’s fishing off the wharf for the kids and even those bigger kids!

Cafes and Restaurants Days Bay

Days Bay boasts some wonderful little restaurants and cafes, and all within a 2 minute walk from the wharf.

The Cobar Restaurant & Bar has great dining and boasts superb views and an outside deck Next door is the quaint Blue Penguin Cafe which has the best ice creams! And next to that again is the relaxed and fun Chocolate Dayz Cafe with super coffees and tempting brunch food!

And while you there its a must to pop into Van Heldens Gallery. Lots of superb local crafts and art and if you’re looking for gifts or souvenirs, you’ll find some treasures here!
